Utility Magazine

Your travel companion

Utility is a quarterly magazine about tourism, culture and society, printed since 2008.

I worked as Utility art director from February to September 2010, mainly focusing on its layout redesign. In collaboration with Junio Tumbarello (editor) and Salvo Tuccio (graphic designer), I designed a more flexible grid, capable of containing a dynamic range of information: photos, side-boxes, links, illustrations, infographics, etc.

I also had to face the bilingual aspect of the magazine: to distinguish English from Italian, I chose a single font-family including both serif and sans-serif variants. And to help the reader I designed some recurring graphic elements, which permit an easier navigation through pages.

Our work resulted in a more readable and engaging magazine, with more content that really matters to travellers. That's because Utility Magazine aims to become your travel companion.
